FORM: 6 Weeks In Review
A strong dislike for the UX, but not strong enough to prevent me from purchasing an annual membership!
Whenever I’m reluctant to start something I give myself a quick reality check and remind myself that the time is going to pass anyway, so I might as well do it. By the end of the time frame I have a “well, duh?” moment, questioning why I was ever hesitant in the first place. Look at you on the other side of things! Doing it! Making it! Living it!
Six weeks ago I kicked off the FORM strength and pilates program with a free week and have now stumbled into purchasing a year-long membership. I recapped week one, but let’s get into my thoughts after completing all six.
Bad news first. This is what I did not like:
1. The UX design, whew.
I’m begging for this to be taken back to the drawing board. The explore page in particular just feels clunky with no clear organization. The only reason I did not mind it *as much* was because I chose a specific program that had all of the workouts grouped into each week. If I did not get a BFCM deal for the annual membership, I think I would’ve waited to pay for a subscription until the UX was updated.
2. The emphasis on lower body workouts/movement.
Take this with a grain of salt because I prefer training upper body to lower, but I did feel like there were more lower body focused workouts/moves to where it sometimes felt imbalanced during the week. Not that big of a deal, but just something of note.
3. The music.
It just wasn’t my favorite! It’s definitely more of background music during the workout that I didn’t even notice at times, but it felt like a Big Bootie Mix from college for every workout. I’d rather a solid playlist with full songs, or the ability to play my own music while going through the workout. I’d even throw in the option to have no music at all.
Now for what I liked!
1. The emphasis on strength.
I was nervous that there would not be enough strength training included for my liking, but I was happily surprised! Functional strength training that allows for heavier weights is always a fav in this house.
2. The ability to workout on-the-go.
When I say on-the-go I do mean in the instance where a gym/heavy weight is not available. So for the pilates-focused workouts in this program, I was able to pack my ankle/wrist weights and keep up with the weekly schedule when traveling a bit.
3. The timing/length of the classes.
Honestly none of the workouts felt like they were dragging, even into week 6. They are all 45 minutes or less which definitely helps, but even then, I felt engaged enough to not think about how much time was left. I even came to enjoy the no-repeat workouts!
All in all, I did enjoy the six week strength and pilates program (I’m on round two, I promise I like it!) and would try their other workouts down the line. I ended up buying an annual membership because it’s on sale for $72 (basically 2-3 solidcore classes), and it felt worth it.
I deeply miss being in walking distance of workout studios, but am very satisfied with the pilates workout options through FORM. The Nike Training Club and Peloton app still carry their weight heavily for me, but it’s been nice to switch things up!
Here’s a peak into a few of my workout favs.
love this take. I'm now consideringggg
Which program did you do? I've been considering starting but the UX makes choosing a program confusing imo
